Reason for service changes

Due to road closures along Harbour Esplanade, Princes Bridge and a portion of La Trobe Street as part of the New Year’s Eve celebrations in the city.

Service changes

Trams run to a Saturday frequency with most routes* running all night. Trams run at a 15 to 20-minute frequency between midnight and 2am, and every 60 minutes from 2am.

From 12pm to last tram

  •  Route 30 trams run a shortened service between St Vincent’s Plaza and Stop 1 Spencer Street.

From 12pm to 6am

  • Route 70 and 75 trams run shortened service between Wattle Park/Vermont South and Stop D6 Flinders Street West.
  • Route 86 trams run a shortened service between Bundoora RMIT and Stop 119 La Trobe Street/Spencer Street.

From 8pm to 2am

  • Route 1 and 6 trams run in sections with no trams between Stop 14 Arts Precinct and Stop 11 Collins Street.
  • Route 3a and 64 trams divert via Park Street/Kings Way/William Street between Stop 22 Toorak Road and Stop 7 Flagstaff Station.
  • Route 5, 16, 67 and 72 trams run a shortened service between Stop 14 Arts Precinct and the south eastern suburbs.

*Route 82 trams run until midnight, Route 78 trams run until 1am and City Circle trams will not run.


All train, tram and bus services will be free from 6pm on New Year’s Eve 31 December until 6am on New Year’s Day 1 January.

Plan ahead at ptv.vic.gov.au, wear a face mask while travelling on public transport and allow extra time for your journey.
