Melville Road: Stage 1 track works

Reason for service changes

We’re renewing tram tracks and overhead lines along Melville Road between Dawson Street and Braemar Street in two stages. 

Service changes

Route 58 trams run a shortened service between Toorak and Royal Park Station. Buses replace trams between Royal Park Station and West Coburg.

  • Stage 1: 9pm Friday 18 to last tram Monday 28 August

Buses divert around the work zone on Melville Road between Dawson Street and Albion Street.

Tram stops closed

The following stops will be closed during the works:

  • Stop 28 Park Street
  • Stop 33 Daly Street 
  • Stop 45 Bell Street (Passengers to use Stop 44 Brearley Parade)

Temporary replacement bus stops

The replacement bus will service nearby existing PTV bus stops or temporary bus stops outside the Melville Road work zone for the following kerbside tram stops:

  • Stop 29 Grantham Street (towards Toorak) (both stages)
  • Stop 34 Smith Street
  • Stop 35 Victoria Street 
  • Stop 36 Hope Street 
  • Stop 37 Albion Street

Alternative travel options

Passengers may consider Upfield trains from Flagstaff Station or Royal Park Station as an alternative.

Service changes apply to Bus Routes 506, 508 and 509 during this time.

Trams and replacement buses run to normal frequency during works, however there may be delays due to traffic congestion around the area.

Please note: Melville Road works will occur in 2 stages;

Pedestrians can cross the work zone at Whitby Street, 80m/ 1 minute walk north of Victoria Street.

Accessibility

For a taxi service between closed stops during service changes passengers can call PTV on 1800 800 007 or speak to a customer service employee at Royal Park Station.
